Incontournable et multiplatine, douze fois lauréat d’un Grammy Award® et ayant remporté un emblématique EGOT dans son intégralité (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), John Legend mérite bien son nom. Dès son premier album, Get Lifted (2004), il imprime sa marque vocale et sonore dans le paysage de la nouvelle soul des années 2000. Cet auteur-compositeur et interprète, remarqué et signé par Kanye West, continue de gravir les échelons de la célébrité par de multiples collaborations pour des artistes de rap ou de soul, tout en enregistrant pour son propre compte les albums Once Again (2006) et Evolver (2008). En 2010, il s'accompagne du groupe « The Roots » pour l'album de reprises Wake Up !. Trois ans plus tard, il s'illustre sur Love in the Future et obtient avec All of Me qui en est extrait, son premier numéro un américain. En 2016 suit le cinquième album Darkness and Light.
La même année, il trouve dans La La Land son premier véritable rôle sur grand écran. Il a également composé la chanson Start a fire, que l'on peut entendre dans le film. En 2020, seize ans après son premier album, John Legend, qui a su si bien concilier l’atmosphère et l’émotion de la soul traditionnelle et les saveurs percutantes du hip-hop contemporain, revient avec un septième album Bigger Love, avant d’enchaîner sur deux mois de tournée à travers les États-Unis et de marquer les esprits en organisant un concert virtuel en direct au profit d’une œuvre caritative, qui réunit 500.000 participants ! Already with his very first album, "Get Lifted" (2004), he left his mark of vocals and sound on the new soul landscape of the 2000s. This singer-songwriter, noticed and signed up by Kanye West, continued his rise to fame by way of multiple collaborations with rap and soul artists while at the same time recording albums of his own: "Once Again" (2006) and "Evolver" (2008). In 2010, he was accompanied by the band "The Roots" for the album of cover songs "Wake Up!". Three years later, he distinguished himself with "Love in the Future" and achieved with "All of Me", issued from that album, his first number-one single in America. In 2016 there followed a fifth album: "Darkness and Light". That same year, he found in "La La Land" his first real cinema role. He also wrote the song "Start a fire", which can be heard in the film.
